Sponsorship Programme

Background

Even though much as been achieved in the Kenyan educational system in the past decade and primary school education is now for free for every child, there are still huge obstacles faced by Kenyan students. The most common problem is high school education. High school education in Kenya is still very expensive. Students are called to certain school according to their results in the primary school examinations. Good students are called to good school, which most of the time are really expensive, but may be the only chance for a child to attend a university or to get a decent job.

Another obstacle in the Kenyan educational system are those students with special need as disabled children. They are often not able to attend a normal schools as teachers are unable to attend to their special needs. Schools for disabled children are available in Kenya, but they are still rare and according to the high demand really expensive, so that especially children from poor families cant attend them and therefore often end up with no education at all.

What KCDI is doing?

To help the families in Kasavai village to deal with these educational obstacle, KCDI created a scholarship programme. We are always searching for new sponsors to sponsor the various children in the village, who are not able to attend a High School or a school for children with special needs. If you are interested to sponsor a child please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Our success stories

Anne Livoi

Anne Livoi

Anne Livoi has really passed well in her primary school examinations. She scored 331 marks out of 500 and was therefore called by St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls High School. She served as school assistant headgirl as well as debating club prefect. Her hobbies are legball, reading and travelling. Her Mum and Dad were not able to provide the school fees of 20.963Ksh for the first term. So KCDI was able to find a  sponsor for her. Now Anne has the chance to get closer to her wish of becoming a magistrate. Anne expressed her deepest thanks:

To my Guardian,

I do hereby take the opportunity to thank you for offering me this golden chance to persue my secondary education. I come from a humble background and my parents who are peasant farmers are not in a possition to educate me to secondary level. So they are pleased for your assistance. I will dedicate myself bearing that education is the key to life. I will be diciplined and work hard to achieve my best. Thank you in advance and may God bless you.

Yours faithfully

KCDI came across Treva Sagala the first time in April 2011 at the Membership Meeting of KCDI. Treva was born deaf, but even though he was not able to speak he showed to be a very clever boy, who captured new things very easily. He was drawing pictures on treva going to a special schoola piece of paper during the meeting. His mother was really desperate, because she was not able to send him to school because of his disability. In January 2012 he is now going to a special school for deaf children, thanks to the endless efforts of Alistair Amendi and Hope2Kenya. The life of this small boy has changed so much. As this Video shows Treva finally got the chance to express himself and the deaf boy was given an own language:

Khubeib Asena is a very talented young boy from the Kasavai village. Football is his whole passion. He was the best player in his primary school team. Next to the sport he was also able to perform really well in primary school. Unfortunately his parents were not able to pay for his high school education. Nevertheless with the help from Hope2Kenya KCDI was able to find a sponsor for him. Now he is in High school on a full scholorship. There he is the captain of the high school football team and is again performing really well in school, being the second best student of his class.

Halima Navalayo is our new beneficiary on child sponsorship program, great thanks to Sandy Foster and Brenda Holbein who have agreed to sponsor her in pursuing her nursing training. Halima’s father died before she was born and the mother died when she was 5yrs. She lived with her grandmother who also died in 2008. She was taken up by her uncle who saw her through her high school education. However, the uncle only buys and sales domestic animals which is the lowest business in rural Kenya. She managed to excel in her high school despite all the hardships she went through but she could not get her papers due to outstanding fee balance. Thanks to Sandy and Brenda, she will be able to get her papers and join university.

HADASSAH

Hadassah and FranziHadassah is a brilliant 13 year old with a dream of one day becoming a journalist. Because of the free primary education, she has been able to study up to class eight, where she’s sitting for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) this year. She is very hardworking and her teachers see a lot of potential in her. However, Hadassah was worried that she might not be able to proceed to secondary education. KCDI was able to find a sponsor for her, so that she can continue to pursue her dream of becoming a journalist.
